Paga World Glaucoma Week Press release
7 March 2024FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pan African Glaucoma Association Glaucoma Awareness Month
January 2024
As the world welcomes the new year, the Pan African Glaucoma Association (PAGA) is proud to announce its dedicated efforts in raising awareness about glaucoma, mainly focusing on the challenges faced in Africa and the diaspora. January marks Glaucoma Awareness Month, and at PAGA, we are committed to shedding light on the impact of glaucoma on the African continent.
Glaucoma, often referred to as the "silent thief of sight," poses a significant threat to vision, and its prevalence in Africa requires urgent attention. With a lack of widespread awareness and limited access to healthcare resources, individuals in Africa are disproportionately affected by this sight-threatening condition.
PAGA aims to address this issue by focusing on education and awareness by launching awareness campaigns across various social media platforms to inform communities about the risks, symptoms, and preventive measures related to glaucoma.
Our upcoming inaugural conference, happening in June this year in Ghana, brings together like-minded individuals who are focused on early detection and reducing the stigma associated with seeking eye care in Africa. Together, we can make strides towards a future where every individual has the opportunity to preserve their vision and live a life without the constraints of glaucoma.
